  1. I can infer that source H is trying to tell me that You do not really need to do very well in Mother Tongue to get into a local university in singapore. Source H says that "Good news mum! I just scored a D7 in chinese." This shows that you don't have do really well in your Mother Tongue to get into a university in singapore. This means that even if you are bad in your Mother Tongue, you still have a chance to get in to a local university in singapore. (Gui Shen)(4N3)(36)

  2. Source H tells me that you do not have to score very well in mother tongue language to apply a local university in Singapore. This can be supported by the following line in source H which says"GOOD NEWS MUM!I JUST SCORED A D7 IN CHINESE".Source H also tells me that chinese is not a very important language. This can be supported by the following line in source H which says that"MOTHER TONGUE RULE FOR VARSITY ENTRY EASED...".This means that even though you are very bad in your mother tongue you will still get a chance to enter a local university in Singapore.

  5. From source H i can infer that people in singapore do not really care about chinese language. Source H shows that the student scoring a D7 for chinese language and yet is still very happy about it to tell his mother. From here you can tell that singaporean thinks that chinese language is not important at all.And because of this, even some of the younger generation also thinks the same way thinking that they just have to pass their chinese language and still get a chance to enter the local university. |yeowsiang[37]| |4N3|

  6. from source H i can infer that at the time of that the above artical was made, they lowered it so as to increase the number of entries in local universities, and that do not care about the chinese language as the current international is english, and most course are taught in english.hence the student would be glad to get a D7,which is normally considered a average grade, and the student also does not care,as the point is pointed out when the student said "hi mom! great news! i just scored D7 for chinese!".

  7. From source H i can infer that the Singapore's ministry of education has introduced a new mother tongue policy to students who are weak in Chinese .Source H shows a teenager that have just come back from school showing his results to his mother saying he got a D7 for his Chinese. Therefore the Ministry of Education has drop the standard of mother tongue Chinese so that students have a higher chance to go to their dream school or university.

I can also infer that source H is lifting the burden of those students who are unable to do well in Chinese so the students are able to perform better without worrying so much about Chinese and the government will benefit as more students are able to enter JC. Therefore,This policy is able to help students who are weak in chinese but rather good in other sudjects.[Terence Tan Yong Wen(40)][4N3]
